The Trijicon Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight
The Trijicon ACOG is a star product manufactured by Trijicon Incorporated. The company manufactures sighting system and scopes. The ACOG (Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight) is designed for the AR platform. The ACOG has a fixed 4x magnification for long range and features which the user may find to be very interesting and useful. One of the features is the presence of an illuminated reticule which does away with your dependence on failure prone batteries because instead it uses Tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen to provide illumination. Certain models in ACOG also have the option of scopes which have dual illumination.
These models with having dual illumination use fiber optics that are placed on the scope apart from tritium. These fiber optics emit light and transmit these light to the reticule giving it a brighter appearance to aid in aiming.
Another feature of the Trijicon ACOG is the BDC or the Bullet Drop Compensator. The Bullet Drop Compensator allows the user to engage targets quickly at varying distances. The Bullet Drop Compensator provides the user with aiming points at a specific distance on the scope reticle.
The illumination by the reticule makes the glass on the scope fairly bright for a compact sight. The field of view is of a good 36.8 feet at 100 yards which helps in achieving precision as well as awareness. The fixed nature of the 4x magnification of the scope at is advantageous as it makes the optics less prone to breakage under high stress. The ACOG also provides its shooter with the option of Bindon Aiming Concepts or aiming with both eyes. It seemingly just superimposes itself on the target like a holographic sight, providing better awareness and precision while aiming at moving targets. If you close the forward lens cap of the ACOG, this can be utilized as the red dot. The forward lens cap also has a hexagonal honeycomb pattern covering the forward aperture. It is a patented Kill Flash anti-reflective system which diffuses any glare or reflected light that is coming off the front objective.
The ACOG is rubber-coated and is categorized as an overbuilt model but without being cumbersome.
The Trijicon ACOG is the most popular choice of weapon in the military because of its reliability, ruggedness and for the purpose it fulfills. The many other products like the ACOG by the Trijicon are always superior in quality and can give any optic system company a run for their money.
